Venus Pool

The moment that Venus Pool comes into view is one of awe. Named by the artist William Toplis, this pool is beautiful. Like an oasis in the middle of the desert, Venus Pool lies in stark contrast to its surroundings and has a most serene presence about it.

The jagged rock formations that arch above the pool reflect perfectly into its placid water. Rich hues of blue, green and purple emanate from the pool's basin and draw you in. Along the pool's edge the rocks are flatter and smoother, allowing easy access for those who simply cannot wait to take the plunge.

What makes Venus Pool all the more special is the effort it takes to find it. The sign posted path begins at the top of the Silver Mines and leads you down onto an open headland where the trail seemingly ends. From here there are strategically placed stacks of stones that indicate the best way down. A rather difficult rock climb follows and, for those visiting for the first time, a certain amount of guesswork is necessary.

Fortunately, there are numerous teddy bear pools along this section of the coast so there is plenty to explore as you search for the elusive gem that is Venus Pool. This is a wonderful way to enjoy a low tide.
